Toby Export Converter

Convert Toby lists and cards into portable bookmarks, CSV, or Markdown without uploading your export.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.

Convert your Toby export

Drop your Toby .json file here Click to choose a file, or paste copied JSON while this box is focused.
The standard Toby export uses lists and cards; this also works with groups and other export layouts.

How it works

  1. Export your Toby data from settings as a JSON file.
  2. Drop the file here, or paste the JSON into the fallback text area.
  3. The converter reads Toby lists and cards, preferring custom card titles when they exist.
  4. Select the lists you want and export them as bookmarks HTML, CSV, or Markdown.

Move Toby tabs without losing your lists

Toby's JSON export normally contains a top-level lists array. Each list has a title and a set of cards, and each card usually stores the URL plus either a title or a custom title. This converter keeps that mapping simple: Toby list becomes bookmark folder, Toby card becomes bookmark link.

If your file uses groups instead of lists, or if it was produced by a slightly different Toby export path, the tool searches through the whole file. It looks for tab cards with working links and groups them under the closest list-like section it can find.

The practical reason to do this is portability. Toby's cloud model is convenient, but free-plan limits and account-based storage can make people nervous when their saved tabs are part of real work. A bookmarks file, CSV, or Markdown list gives you a local copy that can be inspected, imported, and archived on your own terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I export my Toby collections?
Open Toby, go to settings, and use the export option to download your data as JSON. Drop that JSON file here or paste the contents into the text area. If your export uses groups instead of lists, the converter handles that too.
Does this preserve my lists?
Yes. Each Toby list becomes a bookmark folder, and each card becomes a bookmark link. When a card has both title and customTitle, the customTitle is used because it is the name you intentionally gave the saved tab.
Toby limited my free saves. What are my options?
A JSON export gives you a portable backup that can move into browser bookmarks, Markdown, or a spreadsheet. From there you can import into another tool, keep an archive, or rebuild the active lists you still need. If you want local saved tab groups without an account, TabGroup Vault Free includes 10 snapshots.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The JSON is parsed in your browser, and the download is generated locally on your device. The page does not upload your Toby export or send your URLs to TabGroup Vault.
