TabGroup Vault Privacy Policy
Summary: Your saved Tab Groups stay in Chrome extension storage, with optional backup to your own Google Drive. We collect only the account, support, payment-status, extension-usage, and website-usage data needed to operate and improve TabGroup Vault. We do not sell personal data.
About This Extension
TabGroup Vault is a browser extension and website designed to help you manage, export, and restore browser Tab Groups. This policy covers the extension, tabgroupvault.com, Pro licensing and trials, and support.
Data We Collect
The data involved depends on which parts of TabGroup Vault you use.
Saved Tab Group Data
The extension processes the following information when you choose to save a snapshot:
- Tab URLs: The web addresses of Tabs in your saved Tab Groups
- Page Titles: The titles of web pages in your Tab Groups
- Tab Group Names: Custom names you assign to your Tab Groups
- Tab Group Colors: Color settings for your Tab Groups
- Tab Properties: Whether Tabs are pinned or active
This data is stored in Chrome extension storage. Eligible snapshots can sync through Chrome when browser sync is enabled; larger snapshots fall back to local extension storage. If you enable Google Drive backup, the backup is transmitted to your own Drive as described below. Saved Tab URLs, titles, and Group names are not sent to our analytics provider.
Account, Purchase, Trial, and Support Data
- Pro licensing: Email address, license key, license status, trial or purchase status, and profile identifiers used to activate and manage a license
- Payments: Transaction and subscription-status information returned by Stripe. Stripe handles card details; we do not store full card numbers
- Support: Email address, subject, message, replies, and delivery metadata when you contact us
- Optional feedback: Information you choose to submit through an uninstall or feedback form
Extension Product Analytics
When extension analytics is enabled, TabGroup Vault sends PostHog product events such as feature interactions, success or failure states, item counts, plan or trial status, interface language, extension version, and a randomly generated extension-instance identifier. We do not send saved Tab URLs, page titles, Group or snapshot names, Google Drive email addresses or file identifiers, or license keys to PostHog. You can turn extension analytics off in Settings.
Website Analytics
Tabgroupvault.com uses Google Analytics and PostHog. These services may process page URLs, referrers and campaign parameters, clicks and funnel events, browser and device information, approximate region, IP address, and cookie or device identifiers. During checkout, PostHog may associate an internal referral identifier or the email you submit with checkout events.
What We Don't Collect
TabGroup Vault does NOT collect:
- Browsing activity outside of saved Tab Groups
- Passwords or login credentials
- Full payment-card numbers or card security codes
- Precise GPS location data
- Health information
- Content of personal communications outside messages you send directly to support
- Keystroke or mouse activity monitoring
How We Store Your Data
Local Storage
- All your Tab Group snapshots are stored locally in your Chrome browser
- Data is compressed using LZ-string for efficient storage
- Chrome sync storage is used to sync your snapshots across your devices (optional)
- Local storage is used as a fallback when sync storage limits are reached
Cloud Storage (Pro Features)
- Pro users can optionally enable automatic backup to their own Google Drive account
- Backups are stored in your private Google Drive appData folder, we never have access to your backup data
- You maintain full control and can disconnect Google Drive sync at any time
- In addition to Google Drive, Chrome's built-in sync storage is used for basic synchronization across your browsers
How We Use Your Data
We use data for the following purposes:
- Save and Restore: Creating snapshots of your Tab Groups and restoring them later
- Export: Generating downloadable files (JSON, CSV, Markdown) of your Tab Groups
- Synchronization: Syncing your saved snapshots across your Chrome browsers
- Organization: Managing and organizing your saved Tab Group snapshots
- Licensing and payments: Starting trials, processing purchases, issuing and activating licenses, preventing abuse, and sending service emails
- Support: Responding to requests and diagnosing reported problems
- Analytics: Understanding page use, install and checkout funnels, and product reliability so we can improve the service
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We disclose data to service providers only as needed to provide the feature you request, operate the service, measure performance, or meet legal obligations.
Services used by TabGroup Vault include:
- Google Chrome sync: Optional browser synchronization managed through your browser account
- Google Drive: Optional Pro backup to your private Drive appData folder
- Stripe: Checkout, saved payment methods for trials, payment processing, and transaction status
- Amazon Web Services: Transactional and support email delivery and inbound support mail
- Google Analytics: Website traffic and acquisition measurement
- PostHog: Opt-out extension product analytics plus website and checkout funnel analytics
Important: Google Drive backups are stored in your personal Google Drive account, not on our servers. We use Google's API only to facilitate the connection, we never store or access your backup data.
Analytics Choices
You can turn extension product analytics off in the extension's Settings. You can limit website analytics with your browser's cookie and tracking-protection settings, a content blocker, or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics does not prevent you from using the extension, though strict blockers can affect website or checkout functionality. You can also contact us to ask about analytics data associated with an email address or checkout reference.
Data Security
We implement security measures to protect your data:
- All API communications use HTTPS encryption
- Data compression reduces storage footprint
- Saved Tab Group data is kept out of our analytics events
- Extension follows Chrome security best practices
Your Data Rights
Access and Control
- View all your saved snapshots through the extension popup or options page
- Rename or delete individual snapshots at any time
- Export your data to files for backup or migration
Data Deletion
- Individual Snapshots: Delete through the extension interface
- Local Extension Data: Delete snapshots in the extension. Uninstalling removes extension-local data from that browser
- Synced or Drive Data: Delete synced snapshots and disconnect or remove the Google Drive backup through the extension and your Google account
- Account, Support, or Analytics Data: Contact us to request access or deletion where applicable
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as our extension evolves. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
